Sell Your Books

We specialize in academic and scholarly books, but we also buy a large variety of other types of books!

WE BUY BOOKS BY APPOINTMENT ON AN AS-NEEDED BASIS. WE WILL START TAKING APPOINTMENTS AGAIN AFTER NEW YEAR’S DAY. CALL MON-FRI 10-4 TO SPEAK TO A BUYER AND SCHEDULE YOUR APPOINTMENT.

WHEN BUYING, WE ESPECIALLY LOOK FOR CONTEMPORARY, LITERARY AUTHORS SUCH AS ATWOOD, MURAKAMI, SAUNDERS, MORRISON, ETC. WE LIKE CLASSICS AS WELL—WOOLF, STEINBECK, BALDWIN—TO NAME A FEW.

PLEASE CALL US TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE BUYER TO BRING IN YOUR BOOKS.

IF YOU HAVE A FULL LIBRARY OR ESTATE THAT YOU ARE INTERESTED IN SELLING, PLEASE GET IN TOUCH WITH BETSY OR KIRSTEN TUES-FRI, 10-4 TO INQUIRE.

Here is a general list of what we buy and don’t buy to help you sort through your collection. It will save your time and effort if you do your best to adhere to these guidelines. FYI we do not deal in old, rare, or antiquarian books nor do we appraise them. In general, you can expect to receive 50 cents for a mass market and 1-2 dollars for trade paperbacks. We pay more for academic press titles in good condition.

We strive to stock our shelves with handsome, high quality, used books and therefore, are ONLY interested in buying books that meet these standards. Books should be in like-new or gently-read condition. PLEASE no smelly, damaged, highlighted, moldy, or torn books. Content should be up-to-date and still relevant.

Buyers are not always in the shop, so please call (413) 584 9868 Mon-Fri 10-4 to set up an appointment. A photo ID is required to sell books to us.

Pricing and Policies

We offer cash or credit. Store credit is usually 50% more than our cash offer. Generally, you can expect to receive approximately 50 cents for mass markets, $1 for trade paperbacks, and more for current university press books and other desirable titles.

Our determination for whether we take or reject your books will depend on several factors: condition, desirability, current stock, space limitations, etc. Please note that the internet has driven down book prices considerably and that this will influence what we are able to pay for your books. Lastly, we reserve the right to refuse any books.

We will also make house calls for large collections (1000+). Please call (413) 584 9868 for more information.
